Acer announced Predator 17X: A VR ready gaming laptop
Acer has announced a new VR ready gaming laptop Predator 17X, it's an updated version of its previous Predator 17. For making it VR compatible Acer is using NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 dedicated graphics card instead of less powerful graphics card found on most gaming laptops.
The new Predator 17X comes up with Window 10 OS, 6th gen Intel core i7-6820HK processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU and a 4K display, it will support Oculus rift or HTC Vive. Desktop level hardware means more power and extra power requires extra juice, resulting in battery life to drop from 5.5 hours to just 3 hours. Also the Predator 17X weigh 2 pounds more than the Predator 17 making it 10 pound portable gaming laptop. Check out the hands on review by Windows Central,
The Predator 17X is a powerful gaming laptop for VR but don't accept it to match the Desktop level experience. The Predator 17X costs $2799 which is almost twice than actually building a VR ready PC, so it is definitely not the first option for the people who own a VR headset. But if you own an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive and you are looking for something portable and money is not the issue then it is probably a right option for you.
Acer will start selling the Predator 17X from May in China and from June in the rest of Europe.
Stay tuned for updates.
