Today Motorola has dropped the price of it's iconic budget smartphone Moto G 3rd generation, Moto G 3rd generation is now available at 9,999 on Amazon India. Moto G is the device that changed the face of budget smartphone market. Now there are lot of competitors in the budget smartphone market but let's not forget who make the revolutionary change.
Motorola's Moto G is facing the tough competition from the products like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Letv Le 1S and Lenovo Vibe K4 Note. All the other competitors are providing the better display and bigger battery than Moto G in the same price range.

The Moto G 3rd generation lacks some features like a Fingerprint scanner, FullHD display panel and a giant battery. Motorola is a well known brand and Moto G is probably the most popular budget phone in the world. So at the end it is the customer choice to decide which of these device actually suits their requirement. You want the decent phone with good spec and trustworthy Brand tag or you want Bang for the buck device?
After waiting for so long Android 6.0
Marshmallow has finally arrived for Moto G 2nd gen.
I have explained the main feature of the new
update in my video.
So now let’s see what’s changed in this new
update,
UI and
Design:
The UI of Marshmallow is looks fairly similar
to that of Android Lollipop. At first you won’t see any difference but after
using it for a while you will notice the improved performance and the new app
animations. The app transitions are now replaced by animations.
Settings and
Shortcuts:
Android now allows you to make widget
shortcuts of particular settings like Bluetooth, Wifi or brightness.
Changes in Lock
Screen:
There are no big changes in the new lock
screen, the clock text is bold and the Phone Dialer icon from the left bottom
side is now replaced by Google Now commands.
Notification
bar and Quick settings:
The new quick setting menu is now allows you
to directly access the WiFi and Bluetooth settings right through the
notification drawer you can now have full access to WiFi and Bluetooth settings.
There is another new feature called Do not
disturb which is similar to that of Priority mode from lollipop with some added
new features.
System UI Tuner:
You can enable the system UI tuner by long
pressing the setting icon from the notification bar.
Once enable you can see the small wrench
appeared alongside of the settings icon. The System UI Tuner allows to tweak the little UI changes like rearranging
the quick setting menu.
Google Now On Tap:
One of the biggest feature on Android
Marshmallow is the Google Now On Tap. I think by now you guys already know how
it works. You can enable the Now On Tap by long pressing the home key.
Once it is activated Now On Tap reads the
content from your screen and gives the results based on the keywords that are
on your screen. It gives you result about people, places or movie times. It is
currently in development mode but works most of the time.
Google
Settings App:
Google settings is now a part of the main
settings. Here is where you will find Google accounts settings, privacy
information, account preferences and Google now settings.
There is another new feature called Set up
nearby device, using which you can set up another device like Android TV.
Doze:
Doze is the another biggest feature of the
Android Marshmallow after Google Now On Tap. Doze is the battery management
system which detects if your device is not in use for certain period, and then
it turns your phone into hibernation mode.
Storage and
Micro-SD Support:
Android now allows you to use your Miro-SD
storage card as a part of the internal storage. Whenever you pop in a new Micro-SD
card you will see the notification to configure the Micro-SD card. You can
either format it as a Internal storage or as a Portable storage, but beware if
you chose to use it as a part on internal storage then it will format your SD
card and will erase all the data on it. So make sure to take the backup of the
data first.
RAM Manager:
If you browse through the settings menu you
will find another new option named Memory.
The Memory settings gives you information
about the RAM used by system and other apps over different time periods. It
shows you the performance, Total memory, Averaged used and free memory. This
will hopefully help you to manage the RAM.
App
permissions:
Android now allows you to control some of the
app permissions. Using this user can control which app is allowed to use
Camera, internet or Contact list.
Automatic
backup:
Marshmallow can now automatically create
backup of your app and data, so if user restores any app from back up it will
be the same as it was before.
Smart lock:
Smart lock allows you to unlock your device
or keeping your device unlocked depending on the option you choose. It included
option for trusted devices, trusted faces and on-body detection.
Text
Selection:
Marshmallow has improved text selection menu.
When selecting text you will get localized floating menu with options like,
Select all, Copy or Share.
App Links:
Marshmallow provides the improved app links
selection. Now you don’t have to repeatedly tell android to open which link in
which app.
Silent mode
and Volume profiles:
Silent mode is back in Android Marshmallow. Pressing
volume key now allows you to adjust the Ring volume, Media volume and alarm
volume separately via a drop down menu.
Direct
Share:
Direct share is the new feature in
Marshmallow, this allows user to share content directly to some contacts. User
doesn’t have to open the separate app.
So these are the some of the new features you
get on the new Marshmallow update. If you haven’t updated it do it now it is absolutely
worth it.
Good news for Moto G 2014 smartphone owners. The wait is almost over, Motorola has posted the Android 6.0 Marshmallow release notes on their website saying,
"We are excited to announce a
new software update for Moto G (2nd Gen.) by Motorola. This update brings
Android™ 6.0 Marshmallow to your phone along with other
improvements.
NOTE: You cannot downgrade to a
previous software version after installing this update."
Moto G 2nd gen. was launched in September 2014 Running with Android Kitkat out of the box. And it started to receive Android 5.0 updates from January 2015. Considering that the Motorola will probably start Soak testing Android 6.0 by end of this month.
The device hasn't received the 5.1 update yet jumping directly to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
